Why You Should Attend CBM
On the homepage of our website you may have read our mission statement: “To provide a place for Christians to connect in the marketplace, encourage believers to go deeper in their faith, not separating the secular and sacred, and connecting missions and ministries to Christian owned businesses for support”.
It is legitimate to ask of the first statement “why do we need to connect to Christians in the marketplace?” There are books that explore that in great depth, but the simple reason is that most of us need the encouragement of other Christians to live out our faith at work, just as we need it in every area of our lives.
Most Christians I know sincerely try to apply the Biblical principles of integrity, honesty, and dependability at work. But, do you model your Christian faith and trust in Jesus at work? Would it be a surprise to your co-workers to find out you are a Christ follower? Have you gone the next step to partner with God in what He wants to happen in and through your work?
Christian Business Meetup exists to connect believers with others who can encourage and inspire us to be more intentional about taking Christ with us to work. The truth, however, is that He goes before us. He is already there – we are to go with Him to accomplish his purposes in our workplace.
Looking to the Bible
One of my favorite verses in scripture is Ephesians 2:10, “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” (NIV, emphasis mine). God has a reason for us to be where we are in the workplace.
Jesus tells us we will experience persecution as believers in Christ. You most likely have not shed blood, but perhaps you have been teased or harassed about your faith.
For many of us, there is a fear of saying something that will lead to a reprimand from a superior, perhaps ostracism by co-workers, or missing out on a promotion because our boss doesn’t believe. Perhaps there is a fear of losing your job because of your faith, as happened to me.
1 Thessalonians 5:11 says “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing” (NIV). Our lunch speakers, panels, sponsors and highlighted ministries aim to do just that. My personal experience is that they have done that very well and have strengthened my faith to intentionally partner with God in my work. Our hope is they will do the same for you!
